DOT driver rules center on safety and paperwork.

Drivers must:

  1. Hold a valid CDL and current medical card
  2. Follow Hours-of-Service with ELDs (11-hr driving, 14-hr duty window, 60/70-hr week, 30-min break)
  3. Perform and record pre-/post-trip inspections and keep DVIRs plus annual maintenance files
  4. Secure loads and stay within axle/GCW limits
  5. Pass random DOT drug- & alcohol tests
  6. Wear seat belts, avoid handheld phones, log roadside inspections and fix defects.

Violations bring fines, CSA points and out-of-service.
